The GT Pack also includes Honda’s Advanced Driver Assist Systems. This comprehensive suite of sensor-based safety technologies includes Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, High-Beam Support System, Blind Spot Information, Cross Traffic Monitor, Traffic Sign Recognition System and Intelligent Speed Limiter.
Forward Collision Warning: At a speed of 9mph or above, this detects the risk of collision by recognising the car or truck directly in front, using the multi-purpose camera. On detecting the risk of collision, it will offer visual and audible warnings. The warning distance can be adjusted and turned off.
Lane Departure Warning: This uses the multi-purpose camera to track lane markings on the road. If the car deviates from its current lane without indicating, it alerts the driver with audible and visual warnings. The system can be turned off by the driver at any time.
High Beam Support System: Working at more than 25 mph to switch High Beam head lights on or off automatically depending on oncoming or preceding vehicles (cars, trucks and motorcycles), bicycles and environmental brightness. The system can be turned off by the driver at any time.
Blind Spot Information: Uses radar to detect cars and trucks in the driver’s blind spot and warn of potential dangers using a visual warning on the door mirror when the vehicle is travelling more than 12 mph. If the driver indicates whilst a vehicle is in the blind spot, the visual warning will blink and an audible warning will sound.
Cross Traffic Monitor: This system uses rear side radar sensors to warn the driver of approaching vehicles when reversing. The approaching vehicle is shown either on the rear-view camera screen or displayed using arrows showing the direction of the travelling vehicle on the i-MID and an audible warning. The system is designed to detect cars and trucks travelling up to 16 mph.
Traffic Sign Recognition system: The multi-purpose camera detects road signs whenever the vehicle is moving forward, displaying the signs via the i-MID once the vehicle has passed the sign. The system is designed to detect circular road signs displaying speed limits and ‘No Passing’ information. Two road signs can be displayed at any one time – the right side of the display only shows speed limit signs while the left shows ‘No Passing’ signs and speed limits with additional information; such as weather conditions, for example.
Intelligent Speed Limiter: Intelligent Speed Limiter combines two otherwise independent safety systems – Adjustable Speed Limiter and Traffic Sign Recognition system – resulting in an advanced safety assistance feature. The Adjustable Speed Limiter system –standard on every Honda car on sale in Europe – regulates the maximum speed of the vehicle at a level set by the driver.
With Intelligent Speed Limiter activated, the maximum speed of the vehicle is automatically determined by the prevailing legal speed limit detected by the Traffic Sign Recognition system. When the vehicle passes a sign indicating a lower speed limit, the vehicle will gently and automatically slow. An alert sounds and the displayed speed limit blinks if the vehicle speed exceeds the limit by 2 mph or more. The vehicle’s maximum speed – regardless of the accelerator input by the driver – will not exceed this limit. When the vehicle passes a sign indicating a higher speed limit, it will allow the driver to accelerate until the vehicle reaches the new maximum permitted speed, at which point it will prevent the vehicle from exceeding the new speed limit. The system can be turned off by the driver at any time.
Accessory pack options
The new Civic Type R has a wider variety of accessory packs and single options than ever before on a Type R, allowing the car to be personalised to suit individuals‘ own preferences.
Red Exterior Pack : This further underlines the car’s sporting nature. It offers a combination of accessories that gives the car an exciting, sporty look using Rally Red accents, including a front grille garnish, door mirror covers, a rear diffuser decoration and a roof spoiler.
Red Interior Pack: Brings the outside red parts to the interior, with red air outlet surrounds, a steering wheel accents, red ambient front footwell lighting and doorstep garnishes.

Single option accessories
A range of single options, such as Honda 3D Sound, as well as individual elements from the option packs are also available. Honda 3D Sound is able to faithfully reproduce music by adding a compact DSP (digital signal processing) unit to the standard Honda sound system in the car, enhancing the listening experience to give a live concert hall feeling.
Drivers can also select individual elements from option packs. For example, hand-made carbon fibre can be applied to the fog light surrounds, while carbon fibre tailgate garnish or carbon fibre tailgate wing (available with gloss black or Rally Red end plates) can be added.
A roof spoiler, in Rally Red or body colour, is available to provide an additional aesthetic touch. Similarly, the front grille garnish is available in a Rally Red and chrome finsh. Rally Red rear diffuser decoration, exchangable Rally Red covers for the side door mirrors or a fuel cap in a gloss black can all be individually specified.
Inside, the red ambient front footwell lighting gives the interior a sporty but sophisticated feel. The footwell lighting is triggered by turning on the headlights and by opening the door.‘Elegance‘ black floor carpets bring even more of Type R to the front footwell, featuring red linings and a metal Type R badge.
The car’s interior can be personalised further by applying a carbon fibre glove box or centre console finish, while the air outlets can be emphasised with a carbon fibre, Rally Red or gloss black surround. The steering wheel can be enhanced with Rally Red or gloss black detailing.
The full range of accessories will be available in July on the Honda Genuine Accessories app, available on the App Store and Google Play.
7.Tested to success, Civic Type R represents the next generation of hot hatch with class-leading performance
Prototype Civic Type R recorded a time unmatched by any other front-wheel drive performance hatchback around the Nürburgring
As part of a rigorous and detailed development and testing programme, a pre-production development Civic Type R achieved a 7 minutes 50.63 seconds lap time of the legendary 20.8 km/12.9 mile Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany. This time is unmatched by any other front-wheel drive performance hatchback.
The lap time was achieved during the final phase of pre-production testing in May 2014 by a Civic Type R development car. The development car was in a standard state of engine tune, with suspension, drivetrain, exhaust, brakes and the aerodynamic package identical to those of the production Civic Type R.
The removal of equipment such as air conditioning, the front passenger seat and audio equipment offset the additional weight of a full roll cage (installed specifically for safety reasons and not to add rigidity).
During the test cycle, the development car used production-specification high-rigidity 19-inch alloy wheels. These were fitted with 235/35R19 road tyres being developed in conjunction with Continental especially for the new Civic Type R. The test cycle during which the 7 minutes 50.63 seconds lap time was achieved was part of the tyre’s development and testing process.

With the automotive world about to descend on the Paris Motor Show 2014, Honda has released further details of the eagerly anticipated new Civic Type R.
The all-new hot hatch – due in UK showrooms next year – will be the most extreme and high-performing Type R in the 22 year history of the red ‘H’ badge, signalling the start of a new performance era for the brand.
Power will come from a 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine from Honda’s next-generation Earth Dreams Technology series. Producing more than 280 PS, it will deliver unmatched performance against any previous Type R, including all generations of the Civic, the iconic performance-oriented versions of the Integra, Accord and even the NSX.
While complying with strict Euro 6 emissions regulations, this is a Honda Type R powerplant like no other. With its predecessors naturally aspirated, the new unit benefits from a turbocharger, boosting low-end power delivery. Combined with the high-end performance synonymous with Honda’s VTEC technology – and much-loved by fanatical Type R owners – the new model promises to deliver a sensational driving experience.
Suehiro Hasshi, Large Project Leader for the Civic Type R at Honda R&D, comments: “Honda has had four Type R model derivatives – the Civic, Integra, Accord and NSX. The engine in this new Honda Civic Type R is unrivalled against all of them in terms of raw power, torque and engine response.”
Hasshi-san emphasised the car’s appeal will be far greater than just the new high-performance engine under the bonnet. A number of engineering innovations and enhancements will make the new Type R a true driver’s car, more than worthy of wearing the famous red ‘H’ badge.
The new Type R will mark the debut of the new ‘+R’ button, for example. Located to the side of the steering wheel, a press activates ‘+R‘ mode for the most exhilarating driving experience. Engine responsiveness is heightened, with torque-mapping changed to a more aggressive and performance-focused setting. Steering becomes more responsive which, together with the new four-point Adaptive Damper System, delivers the ultimate handling experience.
Hasshi explained: “In default standard mode, the Civic Type R is exceptionally agile, an everyday sports car with an enjoyable and fluid acceleration. The ‘+R’ button brings out a more dynamic and athletic car for the driver, sure to set pulses racing. The difference in character is immense. The ‘+R’ mode is extreme; the car is ideal for the track and will be appreciated by the genuine sports-driving enthusiast.”
Another example of Honda’s innovative approach is the car’s ‘steer axis’. In order to deliver the power of the turbocharged 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine, the new Type R’s front suspension system includes this additional mechanical system involving two supporting ‘kingpins’. These work to minimise torque steer, allowing the driver to fully exploit the Type R‘s exceptional driveability.
Furthermore, a new four-point Adaptive Damper System has been developed specifically for the new Type R, which automatically adjusts front and rear suspension damping force stiffness in a split second, to suit driving conditions. This allows the new Type R to provide a comfortable ride during cruising, yet become firm and agile for high-performance handling.
The new Type R will follow in the footsteps of its predecessors with a six-speed manual transmission, which the development team selected in order to maximise driving enjoyment.
Hasshi explains: “The manual transmission allows the driver to select their chosen gear, for example, down from fifth to third when approaching a corner. The concept of the new Civic Type R is to be the complete driver’s car so this was the best option.”
The all-new Civic Type R has been developed and engineeredfor European drivers. The car will be built at Honda’s state-of-the-art plant in Swindon, UK, arriving in dealerships during 2015.
To see the latest Honda Civic Type R Concept please visit the Honda Stand in Hall 3, at the Paris Motor Show 2014. Honda’s press conference takes place on the stand at 16.45 CET on Thursday 2 October.
Ahead of the 2014 Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris, Honda has released images and details of several enhancements across the 2015 Swindon built Civic model range and the launch of the new Civic Sport derivative.
Both the Civic and Civic Tourer benefit from a new front exterior design, providing a new sporty outlook for the model featuring new headlamps with integrated daytime running lights and a new sleek front bumper. The Civic hatchback also features a new rear bumper, side skirts, a rear spoiler finished in black, and LED rear combination lamps.
In-keeping with these premium enhancements on the outside, the 2015 models also receive a specification upgrade inside; with new seatfabrics and stitching on the headrests, new door trims with chrome door handles and a control panel finished in a metallic black.
These aesthetic enhancements combine nicely with the class-leading interior space for which the range is renowned. The Civic’s 477-litre and Civic Tourer’s 624-litre boot capacity remain the best in their respective segments.
The 2015 Civic range will also premiere the all-new Honda Connect in-car audio and information system. Honda Connect offers convenience and connectivity whilst on the road, with key features including; AM/FM, DAB and Internet Radio, Bluetooth connectivity, internet browsing, satellite navigation* and rear-view parking camera.
The system runs Android 4.0.4 and features the familiar pinch, swipe and tap functionality of a smartphoneon a seven inch display screen.
New Civic Sport derivative
The European Civic line-up has been expanded with the introduction of a new derivative, the new Civic Sport. Based on the Civic hatchback, and powered by the 1.6-litre, 120 PS diesel engine or the 1.8-litre, 142 PS petrol engine, it features a colour-coded rear spoiler and 17-inch alloy wheels unique to the Sport derivative. In addition, the Civic Sport echoes the striking design ofthe forthcoming Type R with a new front bumper featuring a lower grille mesh and a black roof lining for the cabin.
Each model in the 2015 Civic range will benefit from the addition of Honda’s City- Brake Active (CTBA) system as standard. Specifically designed to help avoid or mitigate low speed accidents, the system uses radar technology to scan the road ahead, automatically applying the brakes if an imminent risk of collision is detected. The system is engineered to operate at speeds below 30 km/h.
Honda’s press conference will take place at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in Hall 3, at 16:45 CET on Thursday 2 October.
