The Fiat 500X, the original Italian crossover, has been updated inside and out with new looks and technology to satisfy a driver’s every needs. It’s available with a choice of three trim levels, Urban, City Cross and Cross, three petrol engines, including two brand new more efficient turbo petrol engines, and now comes with a host of safety assistance systems as standard across the range. The new Fiat 500X is on sale now priced from £16,995 OTR.
Refreshed functionality and more 500 personality
The new Fiat 500X has evolved to become even more modern and functional as it introduces new comfort and safety features, while adding even more 500 family style.
New daylight running lights and LED rear light clusters are standard across the range, bring it even closer to the look of the rest of the 500 family. Standard on the Cross Plus, and optionally available on other trims, are the new LED headlights, made in partnership with Magneti Marelli. The LED daytime running lights give the front of the new Fiat 500X a clear, distinctive visual identity, while at the rear LED light clusters make the car even more recognisable, as well as increasing its visibility and safety on the road. As well as adding unmistakable 500 style, the LED headlights offer more powerful lighting, improving visibility, consume five times less energy than traditional halogens and reduce eye fatigue thanks to daylight-like illumination and covering a wider area. At a speed of 56mph obstacles can be spotted up to four seconds sooner – which is a distance of 100m –than with the standard halogen units.
Reasserting their distinct identities, the new exterior design highlights the two personalities of the model – the new Urban look features an all-new front and rear bumper design to make tackling city traffic chic, while the new Cross look adds new-look protective skid plates for taking on adventures.
Compact outside and roomy inside, its spacious and protective environment is embellished with the use of premium materials, high-quality finishes and handy storage compartments. The comfortable interior is unmistakably Italian in its style, and comes with a choice of seven different finishes in a choice of fabrics and colours, a wide range of seat settings and a roomy boot. The completely restyled cockpit features a new instrument cluster, with graphics that are now even easier to read, together with a new steering wheel which is contoured to ensure better positioning of the driver's hands, provides perfect grip in Techno-leather upholstery and includes integrated radio controls. The instrument panel maintains its arrangement into three circular elements, in familiar 500 style, blending vintage looks with modern technology. Two analogue dials with speedometer and tachometers are arranged on the sides, while the 3.5-inch TFT display in the middle provides key information to the driver.
Next-generation petrol engines
The new Fiat 500X is the first Fiat model to fit the latest innovative family of turbo engines, designed to strike the right balance for customers between the driving performance and economy. Euro 6D compliant and fitted with Gasoline Particle Filter (GPF), the new turbo engines are the result of over 75,000 hours of virtual tests, 60,000 hours of real-life off-vehicle tests and 5 million kilometres clocked up on roads worldwide to confirm their robustness and reliability.
Developed on a modular structure with 0.33 litre cylinder unit, the new front-wheel drive turbo petrol engine line-up includes a three-cylinder 1.0-litre powerplant that delivers 120hp and 190Nm of torque and is paired with a six-speed manual transmission, as well as a four-cylinder 1.3-litre engine with 150hp and 270Nm of torque, in this case combined with six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission (DCT).
Their architecture guarantees efficiency, modularity, a high degree of component and production process standardisation, flexibility and openness to future evolutions. The new engines are made entirely from aluminium alloy, ensuring unbeatable lightness (the three-cylinder version weighs just 93kg), while the cylinder block, developed in partnership with Teksid, is in high-pressure die-cast aluminium alloy, with a bedplate architecture for the best combination of ride, weight and structural performance.
The use of many innovative technical characteristics contribute to improving performance and maximising driving comfort, such as direct fuel injection to maximise volumetric efficiency and the low inertia turbocharger controlled by an electrically operated wastegate actuator which, combined with a supercharger module water-cooled directly in the intake manifold, ensures a faster response and swift acceleration. The new turbo engines also optimise combustion efficiency through continual control of intake valve opening and timing. The specific intake and exhaust cam profiles improve low load efficiency by recycling exhaust gas through advance opening of the intake valves. When higher power is required, the engine reduces the real compression ratio by delaying valve closure, controlling knock and substantially improving fuel efficiency, even at the highest loads.
The range of petrol engines in the new Fiat 500X is completed by the entry level 110hp 1.6 E-Torq, combined with manual transmission and front-wheel drive, which is now upgraded to meet the Euro 6D pollution reduction standard and now features Start & Stop as standard.
Peace of mind with the most innovative driving assist systems
In addition to style, rich contents and remarkable comfort, the new Fiat 500X offers customers a safe and connected driving experience thanks to the inclusion of safety assistance systems and the latest infotainment technology. Traffic Sign Recognition, Speed Advisor and Lane Assist are now offered as standard on all versions of the new Fiat 500X. In addition Blind Spot Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control and City Brake Control can be optionally specified.
The new Traffic Sign Recognition system uses a camera mounted on the inside of the windscreen to read the speed limits on road signs along the journey. The data is then sent, in real time, to the instrument cluster display where it alerts the driver to the limits to be complied with. Speed Advisor works with the Speed Limiter, when activated, to adapt the speed of the car to the speed limit detected by the Traffic Sign Recognition system. It identifies the current speed limit and, at the click of a button, the Speed Advisor reduces the car’s speed.
Lane Assist uses the optical sensor in the camera to identify the position of the car in relation to the lane markings on the road surface. If the car strays out of the lane, without the driver having indicated in that direction, the system triggers a visual alarm and applies additional torque to the steering wheel to counteract the unintended lane change. Lane Assist operates at speeds between 37mph and 112mph and can be activated by the driver.
A number of optional safety features are also available:
Adaptive Cruise Control can be activated for automatic reduction of the set speed when the car is approaching the vehicle ahead in the same lane, or when another vehicle moves into the same lane. It returns to the set speed when the vehicle in front accelerates or moves to another lane and operates from a speed of 18mph.
The City Brake Control function on the new Fiat 500X can recognise obstacles in the path of the car and brake automatically if the driver does not take action to prevent a collision.
The Blind Spot Alert use radar sensors to assist drivers during lane changes and when overtaking or being overtaken by vehicles out of their angle of vision. The system warns the driver of vehicles in blind spots via illuminating icons on the door mirrors and a beep, or when reversing out of a parking space it identifies vehicles arriving from either side.
State-of-the-art connectivity as standard
Making the smartest solutions, which simplify and improve life at the wheel, affordable for all, is at the heart of the Fiat brand's mission. With this in mind, all versions of the new Fiat 500X come with the UconnectTM 7-inch HD LIVE touchscreen system, complete with Apple CarPlay integration and Android AutoTM compatibility as standard.
This next-generation UconnectTM system comes complete with high-resolution 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth hands-free interface, audio streaming, text reader and voice recognition function, Aux and USB ports with iPod integration and controls on the steering wheel, all as standard. Eco:Drive and my:Car also allow drivers to monitor their driving style to improve the economy and running costs of their car. The system can be further enhanced with an optional Parkview rear parking camera and new TomTom 3D integrated navigation system.
The integration of Apple CarPlay and Android AutoTM offers the smartest and safest way to use the functions of a phone while driving. Apple CarPlay shows road directions optimised according to traffic conditions and it can be used to make phone calls, send and receive messages and play music while remaining focused on the road. Apple CarPlay also works with other apps on your iPhone, such as like your favourite audio, messaging, and voice apps. CarPlay features Siri voice control and is specially designed for driving scenarios. The system is compatible with Android AutoTM, as well, to continue the Android experience in the car, by "projecting" apps and services of the central display, and is designed to make retrieving information while driving easy and safe. The driver can use Google MapsTM to obtain route guidance and easily access music, multimedia contents and their favourite messaging apps. Easy, immediate interaction with devices guarantees the convenience of maintaining the same operating system even in the car, for constantly connected and safe driving. The new Abarth 124 spider aims at sweeping a new generation off their feet with its performance and technical DNA. It combines the authentic roadster experience packed with thrills, technology, safety and a touch of unmistakable Italian design. The car can be ordered now with a price of € 40,000 for all Europe and will be available in dealerships from September.
Performance DNA
The new Abarth 124 spider combines the great sensorial experiences of excitement and driving fun that only a spider can give. Developed with input from the Abarth Racing Team, the car exemplifies at best the distinctive Abarth values: performance, craftsmanship and technical excellence. It is the car that will bring back the smile on the driver's face.
Rear-Wheel drive architecture with Mechanical Limited-Slip Differential
124 spider is designed for thrills and performance and has all the qualities needed to satisfy even the most difficult-to-please drivers. For exceptional dynamism, the Abarth 124 spider is equipped with a sports mechanical Limited-Slip differential as standard to secure drive and traction in the most critical situations and provide incomparable dynamic behavior.
Perfect weigh distribution and lightweight design
Abarth 124 spider creates a new benchmark in the sporty roadster segment and this is confirmed in numbers. Much of the weight is concentrated between the axles and the engine is installed behind the front axle to guarantee agility and superior driving feel. Sophisticated mechanicals and the use of special materials have contained the weight to just 1,060 kilograms, which results in a weight-to-power ratio of 6.2 kg/HP, the best in its category, and perfect 50/50 weight distribution in running order, which translates in great agility and performance. Taking on board the lessons learned through the Abarth racing series, the weight obsession pushed Abarth to eliminate gram by gram all possible weight: For instance, an active bonnet system was developed in order to comply with the strict passenger collision standards without damaging the weight coefficient or balance of the car. By using sensors on the cross-member and two pyrotechnic loads in the engine compartment, the system recognises danger and deploys in a few milliseconds to guarantee a safety gap and attenuate the collision against the bonnet.
Supercar mechanics and suspensions scheme
The suspension of the 124 spider has a high double-wishbone layout in front and a five-link set up in the rear, specifically tuned for greater braking and cornering stability. Steering ensures a great driving feeling with the use of a dual pinion electric power assist system. The Abarth dynamic vehicle set-up ensures customers can get the most out of the rear-wheel drivetrain, always aiming for the true driving pleasure. Also the "Abarth by Bilstein" dampers, together with stiffened anti-roll bars, provide ultimate handling and driving comfort. The Brembo braking system, with aluminum front callipers, guarantees very short braking distances and excellent resistance to brake fade, making the pedal always feel pleasant and safe.
Powerful engine and sporty gearboxes for an extraordinary driving experience
The Abarth 124 spider offered in the EMEA region is equipped with a powerful, reliable four-cylinder 1.4-litre MultiAir Turbo engine. It delivers 170 HP (about 124 HP per litre) and 250 Nm of torque. It has a top speed of 230 km/h and goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8-seconds. Furthermore, the sound of engine really matters in an Abarth car, so the Record Monza exhaust come equipped as standard, generating a beautiful growling sound. The spider is available with a six-speed manual or the automatic Sequenziale Sportivo gearbox. The first is characterised by quick and accurate shifting with a short-throw, direct lever. The Sequenziale Sportivo gearboxis the result of careful tuning to exploit all the engine torque and conveys genuine racing sensations. Using the lever orthe paddles behind the steering wheel, shifting is extremely fast and the performance of the car is boosted even further by setting "Sport" mode on the driving mode selector.
Throttle-steer driving style
The Abarth 124 spider comes with state-of-the-art electronic devices and active safety featuresbut to ensure the Abarth provides a proper race car feeling when driving on track, the new 124 Spider lets the driver disengage the electronic controls to experience the perfect mechanical balance and linear engine response, the trademarks of a genuine rear-wheel drive sportscar.
Officine Abarth: high technology, hand-crafted care
Officine Abarth, based in Mirafiori, is where the 124 spider emphasise the typical Italian art of driving. The 124 receives a special treatment from Abarth technicians, who truly love cars. The Abarth people bring their values to an already great product, by fitting the Racing Anti-glare kit, a matt black treatment for bonnet and boot lid, the Racing Alcantara® Kit that contributes to elevate the overall interior quality, ensuring at the same time a proper sporting feel due to its dark finishing and grip. The standard-fit Record Monza exhaust is also installed in Officine Abarth, to ensure outstanding engine performance and an unmistakable sound. Each car is tested and certified by an Abarth technician who applies a metal plate showing the sequential number of each car to certify the exclusiveness of Abarth 124 spider. A unique number for a unique client.
Design true to the Abarth DNA
The design of the Abarth 124 spider reflects the superb mechanical layout of the car, a key element to achieve the perfect proportions for a sport car: A long bonnet to underline the importance of the engine and the powerful attitude of the car, reduced overhangs to emphasize its agile attitude, a cabin close to the rear axle to let the driver feel the road.
The passenger compartment-to-bonnet ratio is comparable to that of a racing car. A horizontal line rises from the front and stretches rearward to join with the rear line near the rear light cluster: this is an unmistakable reference to the classic 124 spider. The design is all about performance: both the front bumper, with its larger air intake, and the rear bumper's aerodynamic extractor were both shaped in the wind tunnel, as were the rear spoiler and wind stop which both contribute to improving air flow. The 17-inch alloy wheels, the windscreen surround and the roll bars are finished in "Forgiato Grey", a colour selected to underline the bold, technical inclination of the car.
The original headlights together with the front hexagonal grille contribute to reasserting the car's bold personality. The bonnet humps suggest the longitudinal position of the engine: this is a direct reference to the original 124 spider. The exclusive LED headlights and rear lights add expressiveness to the car, both during the day and at night. An important detail are the rear light cluster inserts in matching body colour which form a luminous ring-shaped surface.
The rear end of Abarth 124 spider is characterised by two elements: the swallow-tail section rear wings and the horizontal rear lights which pick up particular features of its classic predecessor. The shape of the rear bumpers with the upper surface jutting into the boot lid conveys a characteristic V-shape to the back of the car. Five body colours are available: special solid "Turini 1975 White " and "Costa Brava 1972 Red, metallic "Isola d'Elba 1974 Blue", "Portogallo 1974 Grey" and "San Marino 1972 Black". The nomenclature is a clear tribute to its prestigious success in rallying.
Interior design
The Abarth DNA is also confirmed inside with an overall focus aimed at guaranteeing ideal ergonomics. The leather seats are supportive and very comfortable at the same time, and allow for a positive driving position as far back and as low as possible to better perceive any lateral movement of the car. Also, the controls are perfectly in tune with the car's sporty set-up: the position of the aluminium pedal board, the small-diameter steering wheel, the short gear lever and the start button on the dashboard all contribute to conveying a sporty driving experience. The instrument panel includes a large rev counter with red background arranged in central position.
Active and passive safety
The new Abarth 124 Spider is equipped with a host of state-of-the-art active and passive safety devices. In addition to the ABS, standard equipment includes the EBD, for adjusting front and rear brake force distribution so as to optimise braking distances and control in all load conditions of the car,
and ESC for increased control in all driving conditions. It is useful in critical situations, e.g. on corners and mixed surfaces in presence of snow, ice and gravel. The ESC applies selective braking and acts on the accelerator to bring the car back on line if a difference between the driver's action and trajectory is detected. The ERM is an extension of the ESC system and exploits the sensors to calculate whether the car is approaching a potentially dangerous condition at risk of rolling over. It corrects the risk by applying the brakes separately and modulating the accelerator position as needed. It can be fully disengaged for track driving to allow the driver exploit the Abarth 124 spider's outstanding balance and dynamic abilities to the full.
The three-point seat belts employ Constant-Force Retractors (CFR) to control the degree of force applied by the belt and then gradually release it in controlled manner.
The LED adaptive headlights are available to guarantee driving pleasure even in poor visibility conditions. They can be equipped with rain sensor and dusk sensor on demand.

July 4 has always been a red-letter date for the FIAT 500. A symbol of mass motorisation in Italy, of which almost 3.8 million were sold, the original FIAT 500 was introduced on this day in 1957. Exactly fifty years later, on July 4 2007, FIAT chose to celebrate that heritage by introducing the New FIAT 500, a car which embodied the same spirit and personality as the original and which has also enjoyed phenomenal success all over the world.
Eight years on, with over 1.5 million produced, the torch is now being passed to the New FIAT 500 with which FIAT is preparing to take on new market challenges without forgetting its illustrious roots. Centro Stile FIAThas refreshed the exterior and interior, retaining the unmistakable 500 look that has made it such a global success but at the same time making even more attractive and contemporary. It has not grown in size but it has grown in maturity with advanced technologies, improved efficiency and even more customisation ideas. In this way, FIAT has carefully evolved and refined the features which have made it an Italian masterpiece in the first place.
Available in two body styles (hatchback and convertible), the New FIAT 500 will be available in three trim levels: Pop, Pop Star and Lounge. All models have LED daytime running lights, seven airbags and a Uconnect infotainment system with six speakers, AUX-IN/USB ports and steering wheel remote controls as standard equipment. The Pop Star version in the UK adds air conditioning, body-colour mirror caps with defrosting function and 15-inch alloy wheels, while the Lounge version adds sophisticated features such as a panoramic glass sunroof, rear parking sensors, a chrome front grille, front fog lights, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and a Uconnect 5” LIVE touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration and numerous built-in apps to help users stay safely connected while on the move.
The engine line-up of the New FIAT 500 at launch includes a 0.9-litre TwinAir engine (85hp or 105hp) and a 1.2-litre 69hp unit. The two-cylinder engines boast exceptional efficiency – 90g/km for the 85hp engine and 99g/km for the 105hp unit – while a new ‘Eco’ configurations of the 1.2 litre 69hp (available after the launch) will reduce emissions to 99 grams of CO2 per kilometre (UK availability TBC).
Bold and seductive, the New FIAT 500 benefits from no fewer than 1,800 innovative detail changes, all designed to enhance the ownership experience and refine its inimitable style. Most noticeable are the new front headlights with LED daytime running lights and the new rear light clusters, not to mention the revised colour palette; the revamped dashboard and the improved materials used throughout. The updates are substantial, with a focus on technological evolution, but loyal to the unmistakable 500 style so as not to upset the successful balance of exclusivity and accessibility it embodies. The FIAT 500 is a global best-seller with a quintessentially Italian heart – elegant and stylish but also affordable and packed with fun – and with its carefully considered enhancements, New FIAT 500 will undoubtedly reassert itself as the benchmark in its segment from every perspective.
Lingotto in Turin
Lingotto in Turin was chosen for the world première of the New FIAT 500. Opened in 1923, the FIAT factory was famed for unusual production process, which worked its way upwards through the building floors with completed vehicles emerging onto its functional test track on the roof. Designed by architect Le Corbusier, Lingotto became a symbol of burgeoning Italian industrialisation even before it was completed.
After being decommissioned, Lingotto was renovated to suit the needs of a changing urban fabric but despite the comprehensive interior refurbishment it maintained its symbolic exterior appearance unaltered. As a result, Lingotto remains an important landmark in Turin thanks to the manner in which it has been evolved and adapted over time while remaining true to its tradition, not unlike the iconic FIAT 500, which is why it was selected as the launch venue for this important vehicle.
In Detail
Italian Style Concentrated
An important element of the appeal of the 500 has always been its compact shape. The new car retains its city-friendly dimensions – 357cm long, 163cm wide and 149cm tall with a wheelbase of 230cm – but the design of the front and rear ends has been sensitively refreshed to ensure the identity of the popular and beloved 500 remains. The exterior style of the New FIAT 500 expresses all the distinctive elements which characterised the 1957 original but now reasserts this appeal with more a contemporary look and additional technical content.
The most obvious reference to the past can be found at the front: New FIAT 500 retains the “face” of its predecessors with headlights which are still circular in shape but have a more dynamic slant to convey a bolder and more confident gaze. These clusters integrate the dipped-beam headlamps and turn signals and use innovative polyellptical modules for improved night vision and extra safety – its 'eyes' are always on the road! The lower light cluster integrates the main beam headlights and LED daytime running lights, which adopt the circular profile of the lamp to graphically reproduces the zeros of 500 allowing the New FIAT 500 to stand out even when it’s dark.
The bonnet retains its distinctive, traditional clamshell form, another nod to its legendary predecessor, and this is complemented by a harmonious, trapezoidal nose which stands out thanks to more pronounced ribbing and complemented by elegant chrome 'whiskers' on both sides of the FIAT badge. The auxiliary air vent is now fed via a three-dimensional grille (with chrome-effect buttons on the Lounge version) flanked by chrome brightwork to give the New FIAT 500 stronger visual presence.
The rear of New FIAT 500 is transformed by the addition of exclusive new 'empty' light clusters comprised of an innovative ring-shaped structure with body-coloured centres. Thanks to these new clusters, which are unique to the segment, light appears to emanate from the bodywork almost like an illuminated tattoo! The rear fog light and reversing light, are relocated to the edges of the redesigned bumper trim, finished either in black or chrome depending on model. This division is functional and guarantees greater light efficiency. Naturally, New FIAT 500 retains the large chrome grab handle that is deliberately reminiscent of the number-plate light of the original FIAT 500.
The profile is still soft and round, with an airy glasshouse, minimal overhangs and a very short bonnet, while its beltline is slightly inclined towards the front to give New FIAT 500 a tough, confidence stance. New alloy wheel designs are also introduced in New FIAT 500, offered in 15- and 16-inch sizes and available in a variety of finishes including an elegant diamond-cut design. The colour palette now totals 13 hues (seven pastel, one solid and five metallic) including two new colours: Glam Coral and Avantgarde Bordeaux. Two striking black-yellow and black-red variants are also available as part of the FIAT 500 'Second Skin' initiative which offers a range of customisation options capable of satisfying every creative taste imaginable. Indeed, it is possible for every 500 driver to tailor their cars with exciting new looks, making walking into a dealership increasingly similar to walking into a high-end Italian fashion house.
There are two types of second skins, the first features a fashionable, geometric pattern along the belt line only, while the larger skin options cover the pillars and roof – and in some cases the bonnet and tailgate as well. Five patterns are offered: Ethnic (geometric pattern); 'Lord' (classic tartan); 'Comics' (pop decoration) in combination with the new two-colour body paintwork; 'Navy' (nautical patterns) and 'Camouflage' (fashionably military). Like a tailor-made garment, everyone can express their own personality with the distinctive 'Second Skin' collection of the New FIAT 500.
Elegance and Innovation Inside
The interiors are extensively revised, most noticeably in terms of dashboard design: it now integrates the advanced Uconnect infotainment (touchscreen on the Lounge version) across the range. The unit is not only easier to read and more intuitive to use, it also improves connectivity and functionality. The dashboard dome and air vents are also redesigned to accommodate the new unit.
The new steering wheel features new remote control buttons which are easier to operate and, thanks to their chrome-plated edging and high-quality materials, more pleasant to touch and to behold. The circular instrument cluster, with analogue dials for speed and engine revs and digital secondary gauges, is retained for Pop and Pop Star models, while the innovative seven-inch TFT display, developed in collaboration with Magneti Marelli - the international leader in the design and manufacture of high-tech automotive systems and components – is optional on the Lounge version.
The driver can monitor data from the speedometer, odometer and trip computer simultaneously at a glance, while the central section of the display – sporting an image of the car – can be configured to show distance travelled, fuel consumption, range, trip time etc. Warning messages and the Gear Shift Indicator, which advises when to shift gear to maximise fuel-efficiency, are also displayed in this cluster in a highly visible manner.
The TFT display is also integrated with the Uconnect™ Radio LIVE and Uconnect™ Radio Nav LIVE so that the media player, telephone and navigation messages also appear on the screen and the LCD screen also reconfigures itself when the Sport button is activated on 0.9 TwinAir Turbo 105hp engine versions.
The front seats adopt a more ergonomic shape and the interior upholstery is available in nine colour combinations with contrasting “crescent” upper portions and head restraints in black or ivory eco-leather. Black, bordeaux or tobacco Frau leather upholstery is also available (depending on model), with embroidered 500 logos on the crescent and contrasting bolster accents.
Further enhancements include a new lidded glove box on the passenger's side and a revised centre console with new cup holders and a relocated 12V power socket. New electric window switches, which adopt a push-down-pull-up operation, complete the visible interior revisions, while additional soundproofing panels in the wheelhouse and firewall making the passenger compartment even more comfortable and refined.
Always connected with Uconnect™
In place of the audio system of the previous 500, the new Uconnect™ system now takes pride of place in middle of the dashboard of the New FIAT 500. On the entry-level version, the system includes; FM/AM radio; remote controls on the steering wheel; AUX-IN and USB ports and six speakers as standard. Lounge models are equipped with the Uconnect™ 5” Radio LIVE system which is a touchscreen unit complete with Bluetooth hands-free calling, voice recognition and an SMS reader for reading text messages received on compatible telephones using 'text to speech' technology. The driver can connect multimedia devices via USB or using the 3.5mm auxiliary jack or stream music via Bluetooth using a compatible smartphone. DAB digital radio is also available.
Uconnect™ LIVE services also debut on the New FIAT 500 (UK availability TBC). The Uconnect™ LIVE app can be downloaded from Apple Store or Google Play Store and as soon as the smartphone is connected to the New FIAT 500 Lounge, many applications can be viewed and controlled via the touchscreen of the Uconnect™ system. The apps have been designed and adapted for use while driving to keep users concentrated on the road ahead.
Uconnect™ LIVE allows direct access via the touchscreen to TuneIn Internet radio, with over 100,000 stations worldwide; Deezer Internet music, with over 35 million tracks for ’Deezer Premium‘ users; Reuters, to keep up-to-date on the most recent world news, and Facebook and Twitter, for staying in touch with friends. Uconnect™ LIVE can also be used to access eco:Drive, the award-winning driving style app which assists drivers to improve fuel consumption by up to 16 percent and contributes to reducing CO2 emissions by providing driving tips in real time. Uconnect™ LIVE even connects directly to my:Car with real time warnings, service deadline memos and an interactive owner handbook to manage car maintenance.
For the first time on the FIAT 500, an integrated Uconnect™ 5” Radio Nav LIVE with voice-activated TomTom satellite navigation is available as an option. The TomTom IQ Routes® function calculates the fastest route based on real-time average speeds and for maximum safety and ease-of-use the system includes an advanced lane indicator, to ensure you’re in the correct lane at complex and unfamiliar junctions or intersections, as well as turn-by-turn instructions which are safely displayed on the instrument panel. The TomTom Live service taps into the world's biggest source of traffic information with over 100 million of monitored kilometres of traffic data collected every day. The navigation system updates every two minutes allowing the Uconnect™ system suggest faster routes and provide more accurate estimated arrival times. In addition to real time information on traffic conditions, users can also benefit from the information on the location of fixed and mobile safety cameras and weather forecasts. Finally, with TomTom Search & Go users can run searches by category or type, like petrol stations or supermarkets, and be directed there.
Environmentally friendly engines
The New FIAT 500 is powered by a range of environment-friendly, Euro 6-compliant engines combined with five- and six-speed manual gearboxes or a Dualogic robotised transmission depending on the model. The engines line-up available at launch include the 1.2 litre 69hp, the TwinAir 85hp and the TwinAir 105hp.
The TwinAir 0.9 85hp has an official fuel consumption figure of 74.3MPG or 3.8 litres/100 km on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 90g/km, remarkable figures which not only have positive environmental implications but which also ease the burden on the owner's pocket too.
The New FIAT 500 range will be expanded after the launch with the 1.2-litre 69hp engine in 'Eco' configuration and the 1.3-litre 16v Multijet II 95hp turbo diesel unit. Please note, the UK availability of both engines is to be confirmed. The 1.2 ‘Eco’ will be equipped with a smart alternator, a specific aerodynamic pack and new 14- or 15-inch tyres with low rolling resistance and high resistance to wear resulting in a reduction in CO2 emissions from 110 to just 99g/km. The New FIAT 500 is the only car in its segment, alongside the FIAT Panda, to offer a small diesel engine ideally suited for those with long commutes into congested cities: The 1.3-litre 16v Multijet II 95hp will emits only 89 grams of CO2 per kilometre and comply with Euro 6 standards when it goes on sale later in the year.
Safety and comfort at the top of its segment
Engineered to comply with the toughest standards, the FIAT 500 is one of the safest cars in its segment. The popular 1.2 69hp version is now equipped with larger brake discs for even more effective and powerful braking, and seven airbags (front, window and side airbags, plus a driver’s knee airbag) remain standard across the range as before. Active safety systems include ABS with electronic brake distribution (EBD), advanced electronic stability control (ESC), anti-slip regulation (ASR), Hill Holder and hydraulic brake assistance (HBA) to help with emergency stops.
Range: A NEW FIAT 500 for all tastes and requirements
The New FIAT 500 will be available with three trim levels – Pop, Pop Star and Lounge – and in hatchback and convertible versions.
Standard equipment across the range includes seven airbags, Uconnect™ Radio with six speakers, AUX-IN and USB ports and steering wheel remote controls as well as LED daytime running lights. The Pop Star version adds air conditioning, body-coloured mirror caps with defrosting function, 15-inch alloy wheels and a 50/50 split folding rear seat with rear headrests while the Lounge model adds luxury equipment including a panoramic glass sunroof, rear parking sensors, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, front fog lights, chrome front grille and the touchscreen Uconnect™ infotainment system.
A full range of Mopar accessories is also available from launch, including vintage-style wheel trims; a range of alloy wheels with different designs, colours and finishes; mirror caps either in chrome-effect or painted in a variety of colours; distinctive side badges; chrome roof mouldings; a rear spoiler and a range of decals for sides and the roof. A tailgate rack is also available with two systems for transporting winter sports equipment, like skis and snowboards.
New customisation kits with original roof wraps and mirror caps will also be available. Five colours are available: microcarbon black, matt silver, matt titanium, military green and jeans. The microcarbon black and military green variants also extend to the dashboard to pick up the special exterior inside the car.
The new FIAT 500 will go on sale in the UK in early September with prices starting at just £10,890 OTR. More details will be made available closer to the vehicle’s launch.
